What is it ?
Pigments of the Web is an HTML color picker. You give it a color, it gives you the hexadecimal code for the WebSafe equivalent color, and vice versa.

A friend of mine was in need of an RGB-to-HTML color converter. After a few searching I found some but none of them suited his needs so I coded Pigments of the Web.
Don't be fooled, this utility is not that simple. Other RGB-to-HTML don't immediately give the WebSafe nearest color and some don't even bother about WebSafe colors ! Pigments of The Web let you choose any color in a 24-bits space (if the RGB sliders don't suit you well just click on one of the two preview swatches, it will bring the so-familiar MacOS color picker) and converts it to the nearest color in the 216-colors WebSafe palette. Click on the little triangle on the top-right corner of the window and you bring the Stock, where you can store HTML colors codes. Click on one of them and the sliders and swatches update immediately, so you can easily compare two colors without having to retype their HTML code or adjust the sliders. Double-click on a row (or select it and press enter/return) and you can assign name to the color. You can even export the list as a text file for future reference, the export function also include RGB values for your convenience. User-friendliness is what makes the Macintosh the best platform ever after all, don't you think ?

1.2 August 24, 2001 - Added styled text drag & drop: dropped text's color is used as working color. Pigments of the Web now includes RGB values in exported HTML codes. Enter/Return key shortcut to name a color. Some little cosmetic corrections.
